Union External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj is said to have offered to resign almost a week before TIMES NOW broke the story of her intervention to aid Lalit Modi. However, her offer was rejected on the intervention of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh, according to sources. Sources say the Prime Minister was briefed about the matter in detail after TIMES NOW sought Swarajs clarification through an elaborate questionnaire almost 10 days back. The PM is said to have convened a meeting with senior party leaders and RSS functionaries, where it was decided that Swaraj would be backed. Swaraj is under pressure from the opposition to resign following TIMES NOWs expose of her aiding former IPL chief Lalit Modi to obtain British travel documents.
