One of the ongoing scandals and human rights violations in the course of Colombia's armed conflict were the "false positive" cases. To justify their human rights violations and up the enemy body count to show supposed successes in the war against rebel insurgents, the military commanders often put guerrilla uniforms on innocent young men killed by the army. Thus far, there are 5,700 documented cases of such extrajudicial killings. Five high ranking military officials, linked to former president Alvaro Uribe, will now be facing trial.
