The FIFA corruption scandal has taken a fresh twist on Sunday, as the Sunday Times have published incredible video showing FIFA executives admitting corruption in respect of the 201 World Cup bidding process.

South Africa won the right to host the 201 World Cup, however the Rainbow Nation have recently come under scrutiny for the manner in which they won the bid.

Many are accusing South Africa of bribing their way to host the tournament, particularly in relation to a $10 million payment which was made to Jack Warner’s CONCACAF federation.

South Africa deny all accusations of bribery and/or corruption.

Whilst Bafana Bafana face their own questions, the Sunday Times has now reveal how Morocco were apparently knee-deep in corruption in their attempt to win the right to host the 2010 World Cup.

The Sunday Times have released a secret tape, showing FIFA executives openly talking about million dollar bribes in respect of the bidding process. As reported by the broadsheet:

[The tapes] include an extraordinary allegation by one of the 24 Fifa executive committee (Exco) members who took part in the ballot for the 2010 World Cup that the contest was rigged and Morocco had actually beaten South Africa. South Africa, which denies the claims, went on to host the tournament.

Ismail Bhamjee, an Exco member from Botswana, said he and his colleagues conferred after the vote and realised Morocco had won the secret ballot. “After talking with everybody . . . Whose votes went where? We’re all colleagues, you know. And then we found out that actually Morocco won by two votes,” he said.

The tapes also revealed that Jack Warner reportedly accepted a $1m bribe from the Moroccan bid.
