With less than a week to go before Mexico's mid-term elections, political violence and drug cartel activity are hindering prospects of a peaceful and democratic vote in some areas of the country. Eight candidates have been murdered since campaigning began in early March, while many others have resigned due to fear of falling victims to organized crime.
