Ecuadorean President Rafael Correa is presenting a new inheritance bill that he says is aimed at ensuring that the nation’s wealthiest pay their fair share in taxes. Correa assured people that the bill will not affect the middle class or the economically underprivileged, but instead is directed at those who receive an inheritance of over US$35,000. He said that only one in 3,000 received an inheritance of that size last year and explained that the measure is meant to break with centuries of wealth accumulation, which has led to approximately 100 families dominating the nation’s economy. teleSUR
