In Mexico, environmental activists, campesino organizations, and NGOs are campaigning against the use of genetically modified crops and the companies that produce their seeds. Part of the activists' campaign involves raising awareness among the public on the threat posed by GMOs to health and the biodiversity. Although the activists won a ban two years on the use of genetically modified corn, their fight is far from over. Efforts have centered on exposing Monsanto, a company whose seeds are used in 90% of world production of corn, canola, soy, and cotton. Critics charge that the company's activities in Mexico threaten the country's food sovereignty and labor rights. Clayton Conn reports from Mexico City. teleSUR
