As students marched once again in Valparaiso, Chile, they were attacked by riot police, who arrested 37 and injured dozens. This time the protesters were headed for Congress, where President Michelle Bachelet was delivering her State of the Union message. Even as the President reviewed the challenges of the last few years, promised free university education for the majority of students and announced a labor reform, police were attacking demonstrators with tear gas, water cannons and clubs. At least one protester suffered a serious head injury. Demonstrators say they’re fed up with privilege, corruption and police brutality. The recent round of protests attracted international attentions when two students were shot dead last May 14.
