Teachers Day in Mexico was marked by protests in the country's capital. Demonstrators from the State of Mexico, Guerrero, Oaxaca, Michoacan, and Mexico City marched to protest the 2013 reform that they say is a step toward privatizing education. Critics also argue that the reform will diminish educators' contractual rights, impose arbitrary evaluations, and undermine a critical focus in teaching methodology. Although a commission from the march met with Interior Ministry officials no agreements were reached and the teachers are threatening to call a nationwide strike.
