Honduras indigenous activist Berta Caceres, winner of the 2015 Goldman Environmental Price, said the fight to defend the country's natural resources is under threat by corporations supported by the government. Caceres, a leader of the Civic Council of Popular and Indigenous Organizations of Honduras (COPINH), received the award for her defense of the Gualcarque River where international corporations are seeking to build a hydroelectric dam. As a Goldman Prize recipient, activists feel Caseres has less reason to fear repression, which has already claimed the life of one of the movement's leaders.
