Bagaman at hindi direktang kinumpirma, sinabi ng Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) na maaaring ang teroristang si Marwan nga ang napatay sa Mamasapano. Ayon naman sa National Bureau of Investigation (NBI), mas makukumpirma kung si Marwan nga ang napatay sa pamamagitan ng fingerprints nito.
