In-depth reports and analysis from our extensive network of correspondents throughout the region on the most important developments in Latin America. The Caribbean is known for sun, sea and sand. But too much sun and not enough rain is wreaking havoc on the islands. Countries are being warned of a drawn-out dry spell. In Saint Lucia, water levels in the island’s main dam and reservoir have been dropping sharply. The dry weather has also taken its toll on farmers and the supply of fruits and vegetables. Furthermore, there has been a rise in bush fires that have threatened homes and led to the closure of schools. As the hurricane season begins, observers fear that there will be a dramatic shift to torrential rains and flooding. Alison Kentish reports from Saint Lucia for teleSUR.
