A judge was injured and twelve other killed after a Taliban bomb exploded while he was on his way to Karachi's High Court.

According to reports, Judge Maqbool Baqir's convoy was on its way to the Sindh High Court on Wednesday, during the morning rush-hour. The 6 kg bomb, attached to a motorcycle parked in the street, was detonated remotely. According to witnesses, the blast was so intense it was heard for several miles. It also injured several bystanders and damaged local shops and surrounding vehicles, local TV footage showed. The judge was taken to the city's top hospital with critical injuries, but was said to be out of danger, Gulf News reported.

According to Gulf News, a Tehreeke Taliban Pakistan spokesman claimed responsibility for the attack, adding that the judge had been handing down "anti-Taliban and anti-mujahideen" verdicts. According to the Wall Street Journal, "Mr. Baqir is a well-respected judge who until recently served as head of the Antiterrorism Court in the city of Rawalpindi".
