A stomach bug struck 26 students during a Qantas flight from Chile to Australia and left them vomiting and suffering from diarrhea throughout much of the 14-hour flight from Santiago to Sydney.
The group, who are believed to have all been travelling together, contracted the norovirus prior to departure, according to Qantas.
Symptoms of the infection only became evident midway through the flight.
The 26 ill passengers were moved to the rear of the plane where four lavatories were located.
Upon arrival in Sydney, 16 of the passengers required hospitalization, three of whom had to be carried from the plane on stretchers.
