Three friends were tragically killed after the car they were traveling into plunged into a river at Jalan Ayer Keroh Lama in Malaysia and sank into the water on Sunday, according to The Star Online.
According to sole survivor of the accident, Liew Yu Yang, 20, he and his friends, Chong Jun Wei, 19, Wong Wei Hao, 22, and Ng Kee Kang, 19, left home at around 9:00 p.m. on Saturday to have tea at an eatery in Malim. They were there until 2:00 a.m. All four hailed from Kampung Baru Parit Keliling in Jasin.
According to state public order and traffic chief, Supt Ahmad Adnan Basri, initial investigations showed that Chong lost control of the Proton Saga at a sharp bend near the Bestari mini stadium, and crashed into the river at around 3:30 a.m.
Liew said he was awakened by the impact, and sustained minor injuries to his right arm and right leg. He was able to climb out through one of the windows, and sought help from a passing motorcyclist before he lost consciousness.
"I remember it was raining heavily. All of us, except Chong, had fallen asleep," Liew told The Star Online. "I woke up in shock and realised that water was rushing into the car, and was reaching the level of my nose. I quickly climbed out from one of the windows to get help. I saw that the car had overturned in the water. After getting help from a passing motorcyclist, I passed out."
Liew was discharged from the Malacca Hospital on Sunday afternoon.
The state Fire and Rescue Department's scuba unit managed to recover the bodies of the rest of the people in the car by 4:15 a.m. Families have claimed the remains after a post-mortem was conducted.
