A passenger train carrying civilians came under attack on Friday as it passed Dozan on its way to Rawalpindi, via Sibi village, Balochistan province, Pakistan. The attackers waited in ambush for the train to approach before firing machine guns and rockets into the carriages. Women and children are among the 24 casualties, with many in critical condition. Two other victims have already succumbed to their injuries. Local government official Zubair Kurd warned that the death toll may go up due to the severity of some of the victims' injuries.
Kurd said the attackers managed to escape but a search operation is being undertaken to find them. Though the attackers identities and affiliations are not known, authorities believe they may be related to the Baloch separatists who gunned down 14 people in the same area nine days ago.
