A human skull found in the Panama jungle is suspected to be that of Yvonne Baldelli who went missing in 2011.
Her boyfriend at the time Brian Brimager is suspected of having killed her. The retired US Marine has said Baldelli fled to Costa Rica with another man.
According to NYDailyNews, Yvonne Baldelli, 43, from Carlsbad was last seen with her retired Marine boyfriend in November 2011 at Isla Carenero, where the human remains were found Tuesday
A Panama resident found a military-green backpack in the jungle. Inside the backpack were a human skull, some other skeletal remains and some clothes. The skeletal remains were reportedly incomplete.
DNA testing will be carried out to confirm whether the skull is that of Baldelli.
Police had responded to a complaint of Brimager assaulting Baldelli on a previous occasion. Authorities also found evidence Brimager had emailed a former partner saying he would be coming back to California to be with her and their shared daughter. He did not mention Baldelli in these emails.
Police also suspect Brimager travelled without Baldelli to Costa Rica, and used her credit cards there to make it appear she was still alive.
A search of the ex-marine's computer revealed he had googled "how to wash blood of a mattress".
The animation creates the police theory positing Brimager as Baldelli's killer.
