Investigations are uncovering more details about events that occurred between the time of Renisha McBride's car accident and her fatal shooting outside a suburban Detroit home early Saturday (November 2) last week.

McBride, 19, was shot in the face by a 54-year-old Dearborn Heights homeowner, who claimed to have fired his 12-gauge shotgun by accident.

Earlier in the night, McBride had been speeding in a 2004 Ford Taurus when she rear-ended a parked vehicle near the intersection of Brammell Street and Majestic Avenue, according to reports.

McBride, with her face bleeding, reportedly walked away from her damaged vehicle, saying that she wanted to go home.

Police received a call reporting the accident just before 1 a.m. on November 2, but no officers were immediately dispatched since the incident was deemed low priority, Detroit police spokesman Sgt. Michael Woody said according to a Detroit Free Press report.

Forty minutes later, another call was made to police reporting that McBride had returned to the site of the accident. But she could not be found when the EMTs arrived on site.

It is unknown how, nearly two hours later, McBride had arrived at the home in the 16800 block of West Outer Drive in Dearborn Heights, six blocks away from the site of her car collision. McBride was shot at 3:40 a.m.

McBride's death has sparked debate over "stand your ground" laws in various U.S. states. Known as Castle Doctrine under Michigan law, any individual may use force to defend against what he or she believes to be assault.
