Three suspected Cambodian illegal loggers were killed in a gun battle with Thai forestry officials on Tuesday (November 19).

The incident took place near the Thai-Cambodian border forest in Tambon Lalai in Kantharalak district. It was reported that Phanom Dong Rak Wildlife Reserve officials encountered a group of three suspected loggers when they were patrolling the forest near the Thai-Cambodian border.

A gun battle ensued between the suspected illegal loggers and forestry officials, which lasted more than 10 minutes, according to Bangkok Post. All three suspected illegal loggers, who are believed to have been Cambodian, were found dead. Eighteen Siamese rosewood logs were discovered nearby.

The logs would have reportedly been worth up to 10 million baht (316,000 US dollars) had they been smuggled out of the country.
