More than 1,000 Hong Kong tourists on group tours in Bangkok are safe and staying clear of protest hotspots, according to Travel Industry Council of Hong Kong.
The protest's violent turn has caused four deaths and 57 injuries, according to Bangkok's Erawan emergency center.
Thousands of protesters were trying to occupy Prime Minister's Office last Sunday but were stopped by the police. Police fended off protesters with tear gas, water cannons and rubber bullets for the first time since the protest started a week ago.
Thai Prime Minister Ms Yingluck was forced to flee to an unknown location after a planned press conference was scrapped when protesters stormed the police building where it was to be held.
Many central area businesses, including five major shopping malls, were closed due to the deepening crisis. Thai government urged its citizens to stay in from 10pm on Sunday night till 5am the next morning, while China's Embassy warned Chinese tourists to stay away from demonstration and not to dress in red or yellow.
According to police, there were estimated 30,000 protesters yesterday, assembling at eight government buildings and taking over three TV stations.
Protest leader Suthep called a general strike for government employees for Monday and demanded demands prime minister to step down.
Thai military has promised to step in to negotiate, urging police to stop using tear gas and for protesters to stop demonstrating.
