Two Japanese women were arrested on Monday after allegedly leaving the body of their dead mother unattended in a Kobe apartment for two months. The 58-year-old woman, surnamed Kazuyo, reportedly died in December and her body was left lying in one of the apartment's rooms.

Relatives, not having been informed of Kazuyo's death, eventually grew suspicious. They spoke to police and visited her home to check on her, only to discover her neglected corpse. No suspicious injuries were found on her body.

The woman's two daughters admitted to having known about their mother's death and to willfully neglecting her corpse. Police are currently investigating the exact cause of Kazuyo's death.
