In the lead-up to the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP), civil society organizations in Peru have raised concerns that the treaty would limit Internet transparency. Leaked documents indicate that private Internet Service Providers rather than state courts would decide whether on-line content is in violation of established rules. The treaty is currently being negotiated behind closed doors by the United States and 11 countries with over 600 corporate advisers participating in the deliberations. Civil society organizations also criticize the TPP for limiting the government's authority to allow the sale of generic medicines and placing constraints on policies in fields such as health and environmental safety and labor rights.
