It's been four years since this Taiwanese college student got her dachshund, Bubu, who enjoys jumping to and fro, all over the house. Unfortunately, Bubu fell from the stairs last month. The vet discovered that Bubu's sprained his back and had lost sensation on both of his legs.

Bubu's operation cost his owner, May, roughly USD$3,300, including a tomography scan before surgery.

After surgery, Bubu can stand and walk around again.

This swimming dachshund, Mickey, is going through rehabilitation as his bulging discs
put pressure on his spinal cord. The treadmill underwater keeps moving so Mickey naturally starts kicking his legs. He has to rely on a lifting belt to help him stand in a proper position in order to learn to walk again.

The vet said, according to research in Japan, 25% of dachshunds will sustain spinal injuries due to a genetic defect.

Another vet warns dachshund owners not to let their precious puppies climb stairs or jump, and definitely don't make them stand upright as it might damage the dogs' spine, joints and intervertebral disks. He said, in the worst case, a dachshunds could be paralyzed and die.
