A self-styled lawyer has been charged with frauds against clients whom he tricked into thinking he was a bona fide legal professional.
The man, surnamed Yu, pretended to work at the Chiayi District Prosecutors Office.
His fake identity and silver-tongue won him a wife and a child. Each time his wife quizzed him about his work, he would show her around the office building and then grab a meal with his 'colleagues.'
She didn't discover he was a sham until they had been married for three years. She went crazy and demanded a divorce. Yu, co-founded his law office with his frends.
He charged one client US$1,667 for a case, but then failed to complete the work. When the client lodged a claim against him, investigators uncovered him as a fraud. They found he had made around US$45,000 by deceiving his clients over the years.
Mr. Yu and his accomplices have been charged with fraud.
