The suspect who led the attack on the United States Mission in Benghazi, Libya, was captured on Monday in a man hunt dragged on for nearly two years.

Reports said that the lead suspect in the Benghazi attack had been watched by dozens of U.S. commandos and several F.B.I. agents for days leading up to his capture.

Reports said that armed forces closed in on the militia leader in the outskirts of Benghazi, and arrested him without a fight. Abu Khatalla was then stuffed into a vehicle and taken out of Libya to a U.S. warship awaiting at the Mediterranean coast. He is now undergoing questioning about the 2012 Benghazi attacks and anything else he knows about terrorist activity.

The suspect went into hiding last year after he a series of media interviews that appeared to mock any U.S. manhunt for him. He faces three federal criminal charges for the September 11, 2012 attack which continues to raise issues about U.S. security abroad.
