Video taken on June 28 of an apparently racially motivated and unprovoked attack on an Asian man riding a Spanish metro train has gone viral in that country, and beyond.

According to local media reports, the victim of the attack, a young Mongolian man boarded Barcelona's line 1 train at Urquinaona station.

Also on the train were several young men who took a dislike to the non-European with black hair, including a Russian.

The Russian approached the Mongolian and one of his companions took out a smartphone. That's when the video starts.

It's not clear what's being said, but the Russian is clearly trying to intimidate the other man as he stands threateningly close. Then he explodes. Passengers intervene to separate the two and hold
One passenger stands between the them and pushes the Mongolian out at the next station, Fabra i Puig. He may have simply done so to stop the fight from continuing, it's not clear.

The guy who caught the business end of those racist fists has not been ID'd and has not yet made a complaint to the police.

The images spread quickly across the web after originally appearing on the Twitter feed of a user who has since gone to ground, pulling his page down.

But Spain's El Pais reported the user to be a Caucasian neo-Nazi skinhead who earlier posted this message: "I'm not the one in the video, I'm recording. He is a Russian comrade. The Chinese [sic] was insulting us and the Russian shut him up."　

Working from tips provided mainly by Twitter users, police on Monday arrested the alleged puncher. The Barcelona city government is filing charges against him.
