Footage of Olympic and Paralympic star Oscar Pistorius' re-enactment of crucial moments in the fatal shooting of girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp that aired on Australian television Sunday night could lead to a mistrial, according to an expert who spoke to AFP.

The footage, shot at Pistorius' uncle's house "some months" after the shooting shows the Paralympics gold medalist on his stumps, clenching his fist as though he were wielding a gun, and running toward the camera to re-enact how he shot at his bathroom door on that fateful night in February of last year at what he says he thought was an intruder.

The video also shows Pistorius dragging his sister Aimee, in place of Steenkamp in the re-enactment, out of the bathroom and carrying her down the stairs.

Pistorius's legal team allege the footage was "obtained illegally" by Channel 7 and say they had no permission to publish the material.

Legal expert Stephen Tuson said the leak could constitute a breach of privilege between a client and his lawyers and could possibly lead to a mistrial.
