A violent street attack involving a small dog put a man in hospital with a head injury in Manhattan on Tuesday, July 8.
The injured man, named Paul Martone, was punched in the head by an unidentified man in the Hell's Kitchen district of New York City around 6.30 p.m. after an argument broke out concerning his white Chihuahua.
Martone was walking his dog with his boyfriend, Miguel DeContreras, near when a man with blonde hair stepped over his white Chihuahua to get onto the sidewalk, it was reported.
Martone became angry over the perceived slight and pushed the man, who according a police report, tried to remove himself from the situation.
Martone reportedly taunted the man by saying "Why don't you throw the first punch?" The blond man punched him in the face and fled the scene. Martone fell to the ground, causing his head to strike the pavement.
Martone was rushed to Cornell hospital in critical condition but has since improved and is now stable.
Police are now searching for the mysterious blond assailant.
