Anger has built at the incident that took place this Wednesday where a dog was ran over and killed by a MTR train in Hong Kong. After discovering the death of the dog, station staff only wrapped up the body and dropped it off in a nearby dumpster.

On Wednesday, MTR said the dog couldn’t be located, but later admitted to using poor judgment, saying that they should’ve made greater efforts to save the dog. Under the pressure from outraged animal lovers and activists, MTR officials owned up to their mistake and expressed their sympathy for the dog.

MTR added that one of their workers had tried to save the dog but failed. The worker even suffered a minor injury from it. MTR operators thought it would be safe for the dog to stay under the platform and resumed the service after an 8-minute stop. They told the train conductor to drive slowly.

The dog was later spotted at Fanling station. Staff immediately ordered an incoming train to stop in order to search for the canine but they couldn’t locate the dog. The dog was found dead on the tracks after the train departed.

MTR staff just wrapped up the dead body and dropped it off in a nearby dumpster. An online petition signed by 80,000 people was demanding an explanation. Animal rights activists also staged protests at different stations.
