An 18-year-old man, identified as Numan Haider, was shot dead at a police station in the Endeavour Hills suburb of Melbourne, Australia on Tuesday night after he attacked two officers, according to multiple reports.

Police say Haider was called to the police station for an interview, as his behavior “causing concern”.

An Australian Federal Police officer and a Victoria state police officer — part of a joint counter-terrorism team — were meeting the teenager outside the station when he came violent, according to a police statement.

According to Sky News Australia and witnesses reports, Haider brandished an Islamic State (IS) militant group flag before shouting threats against Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbot and insulting the Australian government in general. The teen then attacked the officers with a sharp object and run towards the station. Haider managed to stab the officers multiple times before he was shot and killed.

The Australian quoted sources who said the teen was a "known extremist" and that his passport was believed to have been recently cancelled.

The two officers who were stabbed were taken to hospital and are reportedly both in stable condition.
