Back in June, there was a video that went viral here in Asia that featured a young woman from Japan espousing the virtues of Japanese women compared with their Taiwanese counterparts. Entitled “3 Reasons why you should marry a Japanese woman”, it was met with rather harsh criticism by both Taiwanese and Japanese alike.

We wondered why this otherwise cute college student would say such things, so we packed our gear and set off to try and track her down. It didn’t take long, since she was very willing to answer our questions and clear her name.

So please meet Ami-san, who is here in Taipei as an exchange student hoping to get into the modeling business. As such, she was working with an image studio to try to gain a little exposure, but the Q&A session got out of hand, and as she puts it, all of her statements in the video were taken out of context. She had no trouble putting it all back together for us.
