The remnants of the recent Pacific Typhoon Nuri have forced freezing Arctic air down over the midwestern states this week, causing temperatures to plunge into the teens in some areas.
Former super Typhoon Nuri headed north towards Alaska on Friday, pushing up the westerly jet stream that separates colder Arctic air and warmer air at lower latitudes. The move caused the jet stream to ripple south over the United States, bringing down cold temperature over the northern Plains and the Mountain States.
This cold snap is expected to bring the first broad swath of snow and flurries from Montana down to Nebraska, and out toward Wisconsin.
