Philadelphia police are looking for members of a vigilante mob who violently beat up a homeless man.
The Philadelphia Inquirer reports that incident, caught on tape, was apparently motivated after a boy told his mum that the homeless man had hit him. However investigators say there is no video evidence to support this claim.
34-year-old Aleathea Gillard, the boy’s mother, along with a group of four others attacked the man at a Sunoco gas station in apparent retaliation, the Philadelphia Inquirer reports. 24-year-old Shareena Joachim tried to use mace on the man, but actually used it on another attacker.
According to the New York Daily News, the victim is in critical condition and a medically induced coma. He suffered skull fractures and broken bones.
The city have charged Gillard and Joachim with attempted murder, aggravated assault, possessing instruments of crime, simple assault and recklessly endangering another person.
