Police in France arrested a man Sunday after discovering his plans to attack at least one church in the Villejuif commune of Paris, according to Interior Minister Bernard Cazeneuve and Paris chief prosecutor Francois Molins.

Sid Ahmed Ghlam, 24, is also a suspect in the murder of 32-year-old Auerlie Chatelain, who was found dead in Villejuif the same day.

Glahm, an Algerian native, was already on a watch list for allegedly posting to social media that he wanted to travel to Syria to fight alongside Jihadists.

Police said Glahm called an ambulance Sunday after accidentally shooting himself. When authorities arrived, they searched his car and apartment.

"Detailed documents that were found established beyond doubt that the individual was planning an imminent attack, probably on one or two churches," Cazeneuve said, according to Reuters.

Molins said authorities also found three Kalashnikov assault files, ammunition, bullet-proof vests, technology equipment and "documents in Arabic mentioning terrorist organizations al-Qaeda and the Islamic State."

Police discovered Chatelain's blood on one of Glahm's jacket. Citing the French newspaper Le Monde, Reuters reported police believed Glahm accidentally shot himself during the encounter with Chatelain.

Glahm was taken to a hospital for a leg wound after authorities arrested him. He was still in the hospital on Wednesday, Reuters reported.

Molins told reporters Glahm grew up in Algeria but spent two years in France before high school. After graduating in 2010, he moved to France to become a student.
