A miniature dachshund was rescued last Thursday from under a concrete slab where she had been trapped for 13 days.
Lucy, a miniature dachshund living in a house in Derby, Kansas, went missing on April 3 after her owner Felix left her for a couple of days with her husband to visit a ill family member.
During the day, while at work, Felix's husband would leave Lucy and their other dog Thor alone in their fenced-yard.
According to reconstructions of the accident, the day Lucy went missing, she went around the house and dug a hole in the dirt underneath. She then made a turn and dug 4 feet underneath the concrete slab that supported the house's air conditioning unit, the Wichita Eagle reported. There she got trapped.
Lucy was found 13 days later, thanks to Thor who indicated the spot where she was trapped to the owners. Felix's husband heard Lucy barking, but couldn't believe it. So he played a high pitched dog whistle with his phone to see if she would react. When Lucy barked again, he dug a hole on the other side of the house and saw Lucy looking at him, covered in dirt.
He then called the firefighters and Lucy was transported to the Veterinary Emergency and Specialty Hospital of Wichita.
Lucy miraculously made it out alive without any injuries other than a slight case of starvation and dehydration.
