Mike Rossi, a father of nine-year-old twins and radio personality in Rydal, Pennsylvania wanted to take his family along to see him compete in the Boston Marathon race, and go sightseeing.
Rossi really wanted to have his family there with him to cheer him on, so he notified his kid's school months in advance that they were taking a family vacation, and the twins would be missing three days of school.
When the Rossi family got back from the trip, they received a letter from the principal saying the three days of school that the twins missed would be counted as unexcused absences. Rossi was upset by the tone of the letter, so he wrote a response to the principal where he assured her that the five days the Rossi's spent in Boston had the same educational value as a year of going to school.
He posted the response on Facebook, and it quickly went viral getting thousands of shares and hundreds of likes. After this story went viral, Rossi stated that his problem is with the school's attendance policy, and the letter was not a personal attack on the principal or the school.
