Britain’s Queen Elizabeth has led a ceremony to mark the culmination of three days of events celebrating VE day.

Ahead of a service of thanksgiving in a packed Westminster Abbey, the Queen, a young princess 70-years ago, laid a wreath at the Grave of the Unknown Warrior.

Prince Charles and his wife Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall were among several royal family members in attendance along with thousands of veterans.

Also present were representatives of allied and commonwealth nations that fought alongside Britain

Later outside, thousands lined the streets of central London to watch an Armed Forces and Veteran’s parade from Westminster to Buckingham Palace.

That was followed by a fly-past of World War Two aircraft and a display by the Red Arrows, the Royal Air Force’s acrobatic team.
