Striking Teachers Reach Agreement with Colombian Education Ministry

Following a closed-door meeting leaders of Colombia’s teachers union FECODI, announced in the early morning hours this Thursday that its national board has decided to endorse preliminary agreements with the Ministry of Education that were reached the day before. With this decision, over 300,000 teachers throughout Colombia are expected to return to classes after striking for three weeks. The teachers were initially demanding a 28% increase but decided to accept the 12% offered by the government, which also says that it will improve working conditions.
