Argentine social, human rights, and political movements are promoting an educational project based on the ideas of the left-wing Brazilian philosopher and educator Paolo Freire. Popular education, as Freire's pedagogical methodology is known, proposes an proactive and critical education that furthers social transformation. The Buenos-Aires based School for the Rights of the Peoples of Abya Yala, the name given to the continent by the indigenous peoples of Colombia and Panama, seeks to educate activists, both local and from other Latin American countries, as well as the general public on human and social rights.
