After Baltimore police denied shooting a black man in the street on Monday and Fox News apologized for faulty reporting, U.S. President Barack Obama spoke in the Bronx to launch a new White House project. In his speech, he highlighted the legacy of racism in the United States, stressing that its residual effects have built up over time and created inequality. Obama noted that a history of slavery, ‘Jim Crow’ segregation laws, and discrimination have left minority communities at a disadvantage. He later appeared on the David Letterman Show, where he repeated those ideas, pointing to pockets of poverty, lack of education, lack of opportunities all across the country. “Too often we ignore those pockets until something happens,” said the President. teleSUR
