In Baltimore, the relative calm after the uprising was shaken on Monday with news reports that police had shot another Black man. The police denied shooting the man, saying that his own gun had gone off accidentally during an arrest, and Fox News apologized for inaccurate reporting of the incident. With regards to the situation in Baltimore, U.S. President Barack Obama said that the residual effects of racism have built up over time and created inequality. Obama recognized the effects of slavery, ‘Jim Crow’ laws mandating racial segregation, and discrimination on minority communities and a rising sense of frustration manifested in protests around the country. In an interview with David Letterman, Obama went on to say that the government has ignored problems related to African Americans. teleSUR
