Colombian workers took to the streets on Mayday to denounce their precarious conditions, which they blame on neoliberal policies implemented in the country for decades. These policies have devastated employment and the national industry, while allowing multinational industries to exploit workers and steal the country’s national resources, say union spokespersons, who specifically denounced the privatization of education, healthcare and social security. Speakers also voiced support for Colombia’s peace process, recalling that over 3,000 union leaders have been killed in the conflict. They say workers’ rights must be a key part of the final peace accords. Natalia Margarita reports from Bogota for teleSUR.
