In Honduras the Supreme Court has approved Presidential Re-election. Five years ago the military took President Manuel Zelaya out of power, claiming that there was a possibility of his government changing the Constitution. The Supreme Court, however, did change the Constitution at the petition of the ruling National Party, allowing unrestricted presidential re-election. Former President Zelaya charges that Honduras has lived under an illegal state since the coup that deposed him in 2009. The recent decision is one of a long series of illegal actions he says. According to constitutional expert Rixi Moncada, this is another conspiracy, like the one involved in the 2009 coup, with the difference that there are no longer groups who take to the streets to defend the Constitution. But the new resolution does open the way for Manuel Zelaya to compete for the presidency once again. He is said to be considering the possibility.
