The Colombian Government and the FARC Rebels have resumed talks in Cuba to discuss compensation for the victims of the armed conflict and to continue making plans to remove land mines. The negotiators reconvened in a climate of mutual distrust following the recent clash in the country’s southern Cauca region, where 11 soldiers died. The spokesperson for the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) insisted that the government must recognize its role in perpetuating armed violence. The FARC has pledged to continue its unilateral ceasefire, and there is increasing pressure, especially from social organizations and residents of rural areas affected by the conflict, for the government to agree to a bilateral ceasefire. Natalia Margarita reports from Bogota for teleSUR.
