Three top close aides to former president Alvaro Uribe have been sentenced to six years in prison for bribing senators to approve a constitutional amendment that would have enabled him to run for reelection in 2006. Former Interior Minister Sabas Pretelt and former Social Protection Minister Diego Palacio, as well as the high-ranking secretary of the presidency, Alberto Velasquez, join the long list of other other leading Uribe aides convicted of ethical breaches of conduct and corruption. The Supreme Court will be sentencing two other aides already convinced of illegal wiretapping and espionage against Uribe opponents. Natalia Margarita reports from Bogota. teleSUR
