The U.S. Navy has been working on utilizing drones known as swarm bots as a method of defense.

These robots are part of the American Office of Naval Research's LOCUST program, which is an acronym for Low-Cost UAV Swarming Technology.

When in use, they will be capable of both defensive and offensive missions such as missile strikes and can carry various payloads.

The author of 'Robotics On the Battlefield Part II, the Coming Swarm,' notes in his report that, "Swarms of robotic systems can bring greater mass, coordination, intelligence and speed to the battlefield, enhancing the ability of warfighters to gain a decisive advantage over their adversaries.”

According to the ONR’s press release, recent testing footage shows their launch and swarming capabilities.
