Domestic violence is a serious problem in Honduras, with one woman being murdered every 14 hours. But authorities have chosen to ignore the severity of the phenomenon. In 2014, the Prosecutor's Office received 20,000 domestic violence complaints, but only 5% were investigated. The Center for Women's Rights, which attends to such cases, says one of the obstacles in achieving justice is that police will only take action if the victim is physically present and the victim must confront her aggressor, leading many women to decide not to press charges.
