The National Day celebrations held in Beijing each October 1 mark the founding of the People's Republic of China and are an incredibly coordinated affair.
Chinese officials go to great lengths to ensure security breaches and gaffes are avoided at all costs, which apparently explains why they reportedly performed 'anal security checks' on 10,000 pigeons that were released during Wednesday's ceremony, according to a tweet by the People's Daily, the Party's main mouthpiece.
While Beijing's fears of a possible terrorist attack are not without merit, what kind of contraband are they expecting the pigeons to be carrying?
Regardless, they may have some difficulties preventing the birds from dropping another kind of 'dirty bomb'.
