An ex-Reddit employee who was recently fired decided it would be a good idea to hop back on the site and host an AMA (ask me anything) about why he was let go. The only problem was his former boss, Reddit CEO Yishan Wong, joined in on the fun.
David Ehrmann, a former advertising programmer for Reddit, took questions on Sunday about the company and his reason for his departure.
When asked why he was fired, he said he wasn’t sure. Ehrmann speculated that it may have something to do with his opposition to Reddit’s policy of donating 10 percent of its ad revenue to charity.
“I think there was a motivation beyond what we go in the sales pitch, but I’m not sure what it was,” Ehrmann said. “I remember a time when Yishan said that it feels like any time we feel like we might be doing something sketchy, our knee-jerk reaction is to make it OK by donating to a charity. Others have called it ‘reputation laundering.’”
Reddit’s CEO Yishan Wong then joined the thread a few hours later to clarify why Ehrmann was let go.
Wong responded that Ehrmann was fired because he was incompetent, made inappropriate comments when interviewing, made incorrect comments about Reddit in public and didn’t take feedback.
Wong then finished with saying the non-disparagement agreement had been voided by Ehrmann’s AMA. David didn’t respond, but one commenter summed it up rather nicely: “oh s---.”
