Thirteen-year old Sergio Perez is lucky to still be in one piece after an accident that could have literally caused him to lose his head.

Perez was riding his bicycle in a common area at the back of a row of houses in his neighborhood of Romeoville last week when he failed to notice a thin piece of rope that had been tied across his path.

Perez crashed neck-first into the rope, which knocked him off his bicycle and left him blacked out with a deep cut to his neck.

After waking up he shouted for his mom, who came rushing over before asking a neighbor to call for help.

One of the Perez’ neighbors is suspected of putting up the rope to deter young kids from using the common area as a pathway.

Sergio is slowly recovering and will have a nasty scar on his neck.

Local news crews tried to interview the suspect but she refused to answer questions, only telling reporters to ‘leave her property’.

Police say they are reviewing the case, but as yet no charges have been filed.
