Bad cop threatens to ‘take baby’ from couple during traffic stop in Sandusky, Ohio

Ohio man Andre Stockett is demanding answers from the Sandusky Police Department after a poorly executed traffic stop culminated in his arrest based on a case of mistaken identity and legally dubious justification from the officers involved.
Both he and his partner, who was driving at the time, have been charged with obstruction for failing to comply with police orders — charges which Stockett says he will challenge in court.

Police say Stockett, 34, resembles Jeremy Newell, a man wanted on felony warrants. This is who Sandusky police Assistant Chief Phil Frost said Officer Christopher Denny believed he was speaking to when he pulled the car over on October 1.

Officer Denny's stated reason for the stop, as he detailed in the police report, was that a check of the vehicle’s registration indicated 30-year-old Kathryn Said’s licence had expired. After realising that everything was in order, Denny sought a new justification: Said was driving without headlights. It was just past 7 p.m. but the still sun blazed above the horizon.

Denny then cited Said’s apparent nervousness as probable cause of wrongdoing.

Denny and other officers not identified in the video then use a police sniffer dog to conduct a runaround of the car. The officer then insists the dog registered a hit — he needs this to provide probable cause.

The cop is clearly not getting his way so he drops this threat on them: I’ll arrest you and take your two-week-old baby away. Ms Said gives in.

The police arrested the Stockett and Said both. The only charge laid? Obstructing official business. Zero drugs were found.
